Oil and Gas Pipelines

Our comprehensive knowledge of the current regulatory environment for oil and gas pipelines, combined with our experience in the industry’s historical development, enables us to provide expert advice to clients in a shifting landscape. This dual perspective is crucial for successfully navigating the constantly evolving regulatory environment.

Since the late 1980s, Concentric has been deeply involved in oil and gas pipeline regulation. Our trusted experts have participated in nearly every significant case before the Canada Energy Regulator, and we have appeared before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on key challenges facing the gas pipeline industry.

in the 1990s, our Chairman, John J. Reed, served on a FERC task force that examined pipeline competition in natural gas transmission. We have also provided expert testimony on vital regulatory policy matters, including the establishment of the unbundled open access pipeline network in the U.S. This comprehensive North American experience has given us a deep understanding of the origins and evolution of oil and gas pipeline regulation.

Our experience with both policy advancements and reversals creates a historical framework essential for informed decision-making. We recently undertook an analysis of data center access and co-location in the electric industry, revealing how FERC pipeline policies from 30 years ago continue to influence the present landscape across all sources of energy. This highlights the importance of historical knowledge and contextual understanding in today’s regulatory environment.

We serve a diverse range of clients, including pipeline operators, local distribution company (LDC) pipeline customers, and firms proposing the construction of new pipelines. Our expertise encompasses management consulting, detailed analyses, and expert testimony to address a variety of industry needs, such as the certification of new pipelines, tolling matters, regulatory policy, and competitive analysis, among other essential industry matters.
